Quick-Start Guide to Affiliate Marketing for Moms

If you’re looking for ways to make extra money, then this quick-start guide on affiliate marketing for moms is for you!

Being a mom is incredibly challenging but that doesn’t mean that you can’t carve out time to invest in a money-making side hustle for yourself.  There are a ton of ways to make money online, but affiliate marketing is usually where most online entrepreneurs start. It’s a tried and tested revenue-generating strategy that can be very lucrative.

This post may contain affiliate links which means that I may receive compensation at no extra cost to you if you make a purchase from a link found on my site. Please review my privacy policy for further details. As an Amazon Associate, I earn from qualifying purchases. Thank you for your support in allowing this site to continue!

What is Affiliate Marketing?

Affiliate marketing is essentially a way of selling someone else’s product or service for a commission.    The great thing is that you don’t have to keep inventory, ship products, or provide customer service.

All you have to do is promote the product in your unique way and then embed affiliate links in a blog article or social media post.  When someone clicks on those links and purchases the associated product or service, you get paid!

Well, there is a little more to it than that, so let’s get into some helpful tips for affiliate marketing for moms.

Beginning Steps to Affiliate Marketing for Moms

1. Find a Niche

The first step to affiliate marketing for moms is finding your niche! You could start by thinking about what you’re good at, have a skill in, or what you’re passionate about. Or, you can start with products and services you love and then work backward.

With the latter approach, you’ll begin looking at affiliate sites and see what you can promote. From there, you’d build your blog and/or social media around that.  Don’t try to sell everything. Narrow down your focus to something specific. As a rule of thumb, stick with categories that people are searching for on a daily basis such as fashion, home décor, or blogging services.

2. Apply for Affiliate Programs

Next, with a niche in mind of what you can genuinely promote, you’ll want to start applying for affiliate programs.

Some of my favorite affiliate marketing programs for moms are:

  • Amazon Affiliates
  • ShopStyle Collective
  • rewardStyle (LiketoKnow.it)
  • BrandCycle
  • ShareASale
  • Impact Radius

3. Pick a Platform

Then, once you’ve decided what your niche will be, you’ll need to determine the best way to reach your audience.

There are so many ways to create an audience these days that it can feel overwhelming.  Platforms such as Pinterest, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Youtube, and Twitter have unique rules and sales funnels.  Instead of trying to be “known” on all of them, the best thing to do is pick one or two platforms and put forth your A-Game to make those “home base” for your business.

You could also start your own website, but keep in mind that organic reach will be a much slower path to reach your audience if you don’t promote on social media at all.

4. Build an Audience

Finally, let your creativity shine, attract followers, and build an audience to reach with your affiliate marketing! Be sure to be authentic in your content.  If you’re familiar with or genuinely love the product you’re promoting, it’ll show.

And, be cautious that you don’t become too spammy.  You want to make money of course, but you need to think about the user experience and show that you care about your audience, not just about selling them something. Content is KING. and you want it to be valuable to your audience.

FAQ for Beginning Affiliate Marketing for Moms

Do you need money to start affiliate marketing?

No, you don’t need money to start affiliate marketing.  You can create a free website through WordPress.com and create your own custom logo via a graphic design program. And you can post content for free on social platforms.

That being said, if you truly want to stand out from the crowd of affiliate marketers, investing in your business would be best. Such as, paying for a domain that has your unique business name, custom logo, and tools/supplies such as a professional camera, stock photography, design programs, etc.

Is affiliate marketing still profitable?

Yes!  Affiliate marketing is still alive, well, and profitable.  Affiliate marketing had its heyday probably 10-15 years ago when blogging began to really blow up.  Everyone had the dream of becoming a Digital Nomad, ditching the 9-to-5, and working on the beach from their laptop.  The truth is, most people still do!

The terrain has changed since then but you can still make money at affiliate marketing.  It may take a little longer to start seeing results.  But that doesn’t mean it’s not a worthwhile pursuit.

How much do affiliate links pay?

In most cases, affiliate programs are based on a percentage of a sale.  Some affiliate programs pay only 1-2% of the purchase price, while others could be 20% or more.  In some cases, though it’s not as common, you can make a flat rate when someone purchases a product or service through your link.

How much do beginner affiliate marketers make?

You’ll see some estimates online stating that beginner affiliate marketers make around $300/day.  I personally think this is probably an overestimate.

My reasoning is that if you’re truly a beginner, you’re just figuring things out.  And, if this is your side hustle, you may only have 3-4 hours a day that you can invest in learning and growing your affiliate marketing business.

$300/day is very doable if you’re selling items with high commissions or that have a large sticker price.  The problem is that everyone wants to sell those items, so the market is competitive (ie: blogger service affiliates). In reality, I think most newbies can expect $10-$100/day starting off.

What are the best websites for affiliate marketing for moms?

ShareASale

Like all websites you’ll find in this section, ShareASale is a platform that brings together the partnership between merchants and affiliates.

ShareASale is the type of affiliate platform that once you get approved, you will need to apply individually to each merchant that you feel you could promote.

Examples of retailers: Cricut, Jane, Checks Unlimited, Reebok, Minted, Cupshe, Mary Ruth’s, and more!

Then once you hit a minimum threshold of commissions, you can transfer those funds to your bank account.

ShopStyle Collective

One of the most diverse and easy-to-use platforms is ShopStyle Collective! I love that you don’t have to apply for each retailer individually. Once you get approved, you can start linking and earning from ANY retailer on the platform.

Examples of retailers: Old Navy, Kohl’s, Home Depot, Zulily, Victoria’s Secret, Nordstrom Rack, and so many others! You can link to Amazon as well but not initially on the platform (there is a pending verification period).

There are two programs you can choose between Standard and Advanced. Standard is essentially where you get paid per click but not on the amount of sale. Advanced is that you get paid a percentage based on the sale but not paid per click. You also have more access to product widgets and opportunities for sponsored campaigns and bonuses. I most definitely prefer the Advanced program and highly recommend it!

LTK

In the affiliate world, LTK is the top-tier platform that most influencers desire to be on! It is the home of the popular shopping app that makes influencing profitable for many Instagrammers. This is another fantastic site that gives you full access to retailers without individually applying to each one.

Examples of retailers: Walmart, Carter’s, Best Buy, Target, Kate Spade, Gap, Clinique, TOMS, Academy Sports, and many more! You can link to Amazon as well but not initially on the platform (there is a pending verification period).

Not only are there opportunities for earned commission but also potentiality for sponsored campaigns as well.

LTK is more challenging to get into! But you may have better success being referred by a current creator.

Contact me here if you’d like me to refer you to the program!

Cactus Media

With a huge variety of programs that you can link through, this is a MUST for any affiliate marketing mama. There is no cost to be on the platform and you’ll get exclusive offers to promote to your followers that shop through your links.

This is one of the highest paying platforms out there and there are TONS of categories to start linking!

BrandCycle

This site is a fantastic beginner platform that is very welcoming to new affiliates! Once approved, you get full access to retailers without having to individually apply.

Examples of retailers: The Children’s Place, Coach, Ulta, QVC, HSN, Sephora, Vitamix, and many others!

BrandCycle has a very active Facebook group that helps keep affiliates in the loop of great deals to promote. Plus, they frequently offer bonus incentives to affiliates as well.

Amazon Associates

Everyone loves Amazon, so you will most definitely want to become an Amazon associate! Most applicants get approved, but in order to stay on the platform, you’ll need to get 3 qualifying sales within a certain timeframe.

While commissions are known to be smaller than other platforms, they really add up quickly if you promote them often! And there are bounty commissions you can earn for referring people to Amazon’s programs.

If you’re into fashion, you can additionally apply to be in the Amazon Influencer program which comes with fun perks based on how well you’re performing!

Impact Radius

Another option for affiliate marketing for moms is this widespread platform to earn money from home! Impact Radius is a hub that connects brands and affiliates. You will need to hop on the Live Marketplace to apply for brands that interest you and apply individually.

Examples of retailers: H&R Block, Raddish Kids, American Tourister, Tailwind, Samsonite, and many others!

In my opinion, this platform can be a bit more confusing, especially for beginners. But many affiliates love it once they get the hang of it.
