How to Make Homemade Pizza Dough
4 cups All Purpose Flour⠀
0.50 oz Active Dry Yeast⠀
1.5 tsp Salt⠀
3 tbsp Olive Oil⠀
1.5 cups Hot Water⠀
⠀
Add flour, yeast, and salt to a large food processor. Pulse to combine. Then add in olive oil and pulse again to combine.
Add in hot water then turn on low to mix until dough has formed into a large ball within the food processor. Keep food processor on for 30 more seconds to work the dough.
Using olive oil or shortening, coat the inside of a large bowl. Place dough into the large bowl, cover, and set on counter at room temperature for at least 3 hours.
Dough is ready when it has doubled in size. The recipe will make two medium-sized pizzas or pizza rolls.

How to Make Homemade Pizza
To make two medium pizzas, pull apart half of the pizza dough and place onto a lightly floured surface. Or if making one extra-large pizza, use the full amount of dough.
Using your hands or a rolling pin, spread out the dough evenly. If the dough is sticky, sprinkle on more flour. Press into the desired shape. Repeat step for the second half.
Top with desired pizza sauce, cheese, and toppings (this is where I add in my hidden veggies for the kids). Bake on a pizza pan at 425 degrees for 13-18 mins (oven temperatures vary).⠀
How to Make Homemade Pizza Rolls
Pull apart half of the pizza dough and place onto a lightly floured surface. It will be easier to make two medium-sized pizza rolls instead of one massive roll.
Place each dough portion on a lightly floured surface. Using your hands or a rolling pin, spread out the dough evenly. If the dough is sticky, sprinkle on more flour.
Flatten each dough portion into a rectangular shape at a quarter-inch thickness. Top with desired pizza sauce, cheese, and toppings. Starting with the short sides of the rectangle, begin to roll pizza dough. It doesn’t have to be a super tight roll. Once fully rolled up, slice into 1″ thick pieces, and place onto pizza pan. Bake at 425 degrees for 15-20 minutes.
Can I Freeze Homemade Pizza Dough?
Yes! You can save the pizza dough by freezing it for later use.
Wrap pizza dough in freezer-safe plastic wrap. Then place into a freezer-safe container. Place overnight in the refrigerator to thaw and then prepare as directed.
Can I Freeze Pizza and/or Pizza Rolls?
Absolutely!
I like to “flash freeze” by placing the slices on a baking sheet into the freezer. Be sure that the slices are not touching each other so they will break apart and not clump together!
Then once frozen, place slices into a freezer-safe container.
To serve, allow to thaw overnight in the fridge or if frozen, place a wet paper towel around pizza and microwave for approximately 1 minute.⠀
What Supplies Do I Need for Homemade Pizza?
For ingredients, you’ll need All Purpose Flour, Active Dry Yeast, Olive Oil, Hot Water, and Salt.
For preparation, I suggest a large food processor like this one. You can make this by hand if you need to but work the dough a bit before you set it aside to rise.
You can use a rolling pin to flatten the dough or use your hands.
For baking purposes, I recommend a pizza pan or a pizza stone!
Can I Make This Ahead of Time?
Yes! The dough is shelf-stable and can be set on the counter for the day. I wouldn’t let it set out for longer than 12 hours without putting it in the refrigerator.
You can prep the pizza with sauce, cheese, and toppings and place in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours until you’re ready to bake as well.
How Can I Add “Hidden Vegetables”?
You can add “hidden veggies” for extra nutritional value by adding it to the sauce or as a topping!
For the sauce: I love to finely dice up onions, mushrooms, spinach, and even carrots. Then add those to a saucepan and simmer for 20 minutes which allows the veggies to soften. If you want to really hide then, then you can puree the sauce in a food processor as well. Then spread on your pizza!
For a simpler (but maybe more noticeable) method: Just add the veggies as a topping!
What Pizza Toppings Should I Use?
Anything your heart desires!
Some classic pizza toppings include:
Pepperoni
Italian Sausage
Beef
Mushrooms
Green Pepper
Onion
Pineapple
Ham
Olives
Bacon
Chicken
Roasted Red Pepper
Tomatoes
Spinach
